Delete your account
This page explains how to delete your Out'n'About account and the personal data attached to it, either inside the app or by emailing us. Out'n'About is operated by Lewin Alfie Greenwood, a sole trader trading as APP OUT'N'ABOUT. Deleting an account cannot be undone.
Delete it in the app
- Sign in to the Out'n'About app and open your profile.
- Scroll to the bottom of the profile and tap Delete my account (the red button).
- Read the notice, type DELETE in the box, then tap Delete. Tap Keep my account to back out.
Once it goes through you are signed out everywhere. If you own a venue, the listing stays on the map with its events, specials and photos, but it is no longer linked to you and can be claimed again. Administrator accounts cannot be deleted this way: the app refuses the request.
Cannot sign in? Ask us by email
Email privacy@outnaboutapp.au from the address on the account and ask for it to be deleted. Please include:
- The email address on the account.
- The name shown on your profile in the app.
- A line saying you want the account and its data deleted.
We aim to reply within 7 days. The app is listed on Google Play as Out'n'About.
What is deleted
When the deletion goes through, in one step, we delete:
- Your profile details: name, username, email, phone number, date of birth, gender and postcode.
- Your last known location, and your visit history (the venues you were at).
- Your friends, friend requests, blocks, group memberships, the saved venues and events on your account and the meeting points you dropped.
- Your likes, saves, RSVPs, redemptions, notifications and leaderboard scores.
- Your sign-in sessions and the device tokens used to send you notifications.
- Your sign-in account with our authentication provider, so the email can be used to sign up again.
- If you signed in with Apple, we ask Apple to revoke the access it gave us (a best effort: if Apple cannot be reached, the deletion still goes ahead).
What is kept or anonymised
- Your account record is anonymised, not removed, because billing records, reports and venue content refer to it. It no longer holds your name, email or any other detail that identifies you.
- Your profile photo is removed from your account straight away. The image file itself is cleared from storage by an automatic storage rule, so it can take a short while to disappear.
- Some records keep their content but lose your name: problem reports you sent, aggregate analytics, groups you created and the places, invite codes and invites you added to them (they stay with the group), and venue content (a venue listing and its events, specials and photos stay on the map). Your language setting is not cleared, but it identifies no one once the rest of the record is anonymised.
- Backups: deleted data may sit in secure backups for a short period before the normal backup cycle overwrites it.
- Legal reasons: we may keep some information longer where the law requires it, or to resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our terms.
How long other location data is kept
Deleting your account removes your location data straight away. If you keep your account, our automated settings are: the position recorded when you redeem a special is cleared after 30 days, where that clean-up is switched on. Where the venue visit clean-up is switched on, detailed venue visit records are kept for up to 180 nights, after which only counts that do not identify anyone are kept (for up to 12 months).
